Message from the CEO on the Registration on imports of TBR tyres originated in China

In these days we all have welcomed the very good news about the EU Trade Commission decision to impose registration on imports of new and retreaded truck and bus tyres originated in China.

This measure is an important step forward for the anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigation initiated in August 2017 having as a “concerned product” the importation into EU-28 of new and retreaded truck and bus tyres produced in China.

The next step will be in May 2018 with the application of provisional measures and then final decision in November 2018 and the effect will be retroactive starting from the registration date, February the 1st 2018.

A first estimation of the total impact of the anti-dumping and the anti-subsidy effect is within a range of 26%/74%, quoted from points (28) and (29) of the Official Journal of the European Union 2018/163 of 2.2.2018.
The market is already reacting to this news and we’re seeing the first drastic increases in the wholesale prices for Chinese tyres.

Since the very early beginning, Marangoni has supported the EU Trade Commission investigation because we have the strong belief that fighting the practices that have created an unfair competitive distortion for a long time was the right thing to do.
We have fought this battle and we won’t give up now!

All of us in Marangoni would like to thank all the customers and partners in our market that are side by side with us in the front line to make a change for good finally happen.

We will keep you posted on future developments, thank you.

Best regards

Dino Maggioni
